Now that we are in the middle of a beautiful summer, you have a good chance that your body will receive a good vitamin D3 boost again. Although; we are often out of the sun nowadays and we protect ourselves from the sun by sunglasses, sunscreen, and clothing. That is also necessary of course but that also means that even in the summer we still have a vitamin D3 shortage.
As I sexologist in Udaipur I wanted to share something about the use of supplements for a while. Because there is quite a lot to tell about that. A question I get very often; “What supplements should I take to support my fertility? And; ‘There is so much, I do not see the forest through the trees anymore!’
I can imagine that well. There is a huge supply and what is right? Above you see a picture of vegetables. This is conscious because my conviction is that vegetables (and fruit) must always be the basis. Especially when you are trying to get pregnant it is important that you eat a lot more vegetables and especially green leafy vegetables. Why this is so important, I explain in another blog. Supplements are not magic pills. They work best if they can be additional support to your current healthy lifestyle.
Good, back to the supplements. Because do you opt for a more expensive version of, for example, a nature store or do you want a more affordable brand?
What I find important here is that you choose a supplement containing all active forms of vitamins. You can see it on the back of the jar. The active form of folic acid is, for example, chocolate. This is ascorbic acid from vitamin C. Is there just folate or vitamin C on your pot? (and not the difficult names) then chances are you are dealing with a synthetic species. The vitamins of the pharmacy/drugstore etc. are often synthetic and your body very often has trouble to convert and use synthetic vitamins. Does your doctor or gynecologist just advise you to take only folic acid from the pharmacy? That can be correct. Most regular doctors have unfortunately little interest or idea in supplementation and nutrition and how this can affect health. Very sad but true.
Do you use synthetic supplements? Then it may be that your body absorbs nothing or little with the result that these supplements pile up in your blood. You have nothing to do with this and this often causes (even more) complaints. What you want is to form a healthy basis so that supplementation you take can also be absorbed by your cells and work where it is needed.
Do you want to start with supplements? Take a good multi for getting pregnant in which at least all active (B) vitamins are. In addition, you start with Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is in my opinion number 1 if you want to form a good basis for obtaining optimal fertility.

Omega 3 oil
Using a good fish oil is a must for your health. It is incredibly important to create a healthy basis for your fertility. We almost all have an omega 3 deficiency in our blood because our diet simply is not sufficient enough to provide for this. This has an effect on many body processes including your fertility.
Also applies to omega 3; there is a lot of supply and here too it is of great importance that you choose the right product. For example, there are currently many capsules with omega 3 oil on the market. Storing oil in a capsule is not a good idea. It is oxidizing and because there is a lot of oxygen involved to get the oil in a capsule, much of the active omega 3 acids (DHA and EPA) is lost. Moreover, you have a chance that a capsule contains fillers and you do not want that in your body. So be careful that you choose an oil form and not a capsule. Moreover, it is important that the omega 3 oil is made from sustainable, wild arctic fish.
